The all new Citroen DS3
Citroen have treated the new DS3 to a new powertrain which has enhanced the cars drive. Many test drivers have said the new DS3 is a tidy, supermini with superb handling. The handling of the DS3 is likened to that of Audi’s A1.
The DS3’s 1.2 litre triple turbo is a lovely eager motor. The 1.6 litre diesel is also a very popular choice and can hold its head high against any of the competition.
The motoring press eagerly awaited the all new DS3’s performance, which uses the Torsen differential and the 1.6 litre engine and the 205bhp from Peugeot’s 208 GTi Sport. However, after road testing the general census of opinion is that it lacks power at delivery and has a stiff suspension.
Most pundits have preferred the Ford Fiesta ST, Audi’s S1 and the Mini Cooper S and all feel these cars fir the funky hot hatch sector much better.
Considering everything, the DS3’s cabin is well equipped. However, the driving position is hampered by the steering wheel which does not have enough adjustment. On the other hand, the build quality of the DS3 is good and the revised touchscreen is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The space in the rear of the vehicle is more useable than those of its competitors, but remember it’s a three door exclusively, so some competitors 5 door models, like Audi’s A1 Sportback will accommodate rear seat passengers with ease.
As more DS models release, we will see the removal of the Citroen badges. This is DS’ attempt to be a credible car manufacturer in its own rights.
Our recommended model choice is the DS3 1.2 PureTech DStyle 3 door.
