Why lease the BMW i5?
Leasing is a natural fit for a car like the i5. It's a premium executive EV with a high list price, and leasing lets you drive one for a fixed monthly cost without tying up a large sum or carrying the risk of what a used electric executive car is worth in three or four years ,which is exactly the kind of car where depreciation bites hardest.
Reasons the i5 makes sense on a lease:
It's a proper long-range executive EV. The eDrive40 offers an official range of up to around 362 miles, enough for most long-distance business driving on a single charge.
You get the 5 Series experience, electrified. Same executive cabin, same refinement, same technology ,with near-silent electric drive.
Strong company-car tax position. As a fully electric car, the i5 sits in a low Benefit-in-Kind (BIK) band, which makes it far cheaper to run as a company car than a petrol or diesel 5 Series.
5-star Euro NCAP safety. The i5 (assessed as part of the 5 Series range) holds the maximum five-star Euro NCAP rating.
BMW i5 Saloon vs Touring: which body style?
Both body styles use the same electric running gear, so the choice comes down to shape and space.
i5 Saloon ,the classic executive four-door. Cleaner lines, marginally longer range, and the boot is a sealed saloon-style opening. Choose it if you want the sharpest look and don't regularly carry bulky loads.
i5 Touring the estate. A large, square load bay with a powered tailgate and a boot of around 570 litres, expanding significantly with the rear seats folded. Range is very slightly lower than the Saloon because of the extra weight and shape. Choose it if you carry dogs, prams, sports kit or luggage regularly and want maximum practicality.
Both are available to lease ,use the Saloon and Touring links at the top of the page to see deals for each.
BMW i5 range, charging and real-world driving
This is the part most lease pages skip. Here's the honest picture.
Official range vs what you'll actually get
BMW quotes an official WLTP range of up to around 362 miles for the eDrive40 Saloon (a little less for the Touring). WLTP is a lab figure ,useful for comparing cars, but not what you'll see every day.
In real-world use, expect roughly:
Mild weather, mixed driving: around 290–310 miles
Cold winter motorway driving: around 210–240 miles
That's normal for a large EV ,cold weather and high motorway speeds are what reduce range most. For most drivers the i5 will comfortably cover a week of commuting between charges, and a full motorway range still clears 200 miles in the worst conditions.
Real-world figures are indicative estimates based on typical large-EV performance; actual range depends on speed, temperature, load and driving style.
Charging at home and on the road
At home (7kW wallbox): a full charge takes roughly 11–13 hours ,an easy overnight top-up. If you can charge at home, you'll rarely think about range.
Rapid public charging: the i5 accepts up to around 205kW DC, so a 10–80% top-up takes about 30 minutes on a fast enough charger ,long enough for a coffee on a longer trip.
Faster home charging (22kW AC): some i5 versions support 22kW AC charging, which roughly halves home charging time if you have a compatible three-phase supply. Several deals in the list are marked "[22kW]" for this reason.
BMW i5 eDrive40 vs M60: which version?
BMW offers the i5 in two main forms. Here's how they differ, and which one you can lease here.
eDrive40 (the version you lease here)
The eDrive40 is the core i5. A single electric motor drives the rear wheels with 250kW (340hp), giving 0–62mph in around 6.0 seconds ,quick, quiet and more than fast enough for everyday and business driving. It also has the longest range in the line-up at up to around 362 miles. Every deal on this page is an eDrive40, available in Sport Edition, M Sport and M Sport Pro specifications.
M60 xDrive (the performance range-topper)
The M60 xDrive is the performance flagship. Twin motors give all-wheel drive and 442kW (601hp), cutting 0–62mph to around 3.8 seconds ,genuine M-car pace. The trade-off is range: the extra power and weight bring the official figure down to around 295–331 miles.
The M60 is not currently among CarLeasing's live i5 deals ,the deals on this page are all eDrive40. If you're specifically after an M60 lease, contact the team to check current availability.
What does a BMW i5 cost to run on a lease?
Beyond the monthly rental, the big running cost on any car is fuel ,and this is where an EV like the i5 changes the maths.
Charging cost (illustrative): the i5's usable battery is about 81kWh. Charging at home:
On a typical home electricity rate (~25p/kWh), a full charge costs roughly £20, giving around 290 real-world miles ,about 7p per mile.
On a cheaper EV overnight tariff (~7–9p/kWh), a full charge costs roughly £6–£7 ,around 2–2.5p per mile.
For comparison, a petrol executive saloon doing ~35mpg costs roughly 17–18p per mile in fuel at current pump prices. Over 8,000 miles a year, home-charging the i5 could save a large sum versus petrol ,most of it if you can charge on an overnight tariff.
Other running costs:
Road tax (VED): EVs began paying road tax from April 2025. Check whether it's included in your CarLeasing deal (see the road-tax note below).
Servicing: EVs have fewer moving parts than a petrol 5 Series, so routine servicing is generally simpler.
Company-car tax: as a full EV, the i5 sits in a low BIK band ,the reason it's popular as a business lease.
Charging costs are illustrative and based on stated electricity rates; your actual cost depends on your tariff, where you charge and real-world efficiency. Energy prices change.
Personal vs business leasing on the BMW i5
You can lease the i5 either way ,and for a car in this class, the business case is strong.
Personal leasing (PCH) is for private drivers. You pay a fixed monthly rental including VAT ,the price you see is the price you pay.
Business leasing (BCH) is for companies, sole traders and partnerships. Prices are shown excluding VAT, and VAT-registered businesses can often reclaim part of the VAT on the rentals, depending on how the car is used. Crucially, as a fully electric car the i5 attracts a very low Benefit-in-Kind (BIK) company-car tax rate ,dramatically lower than an equivalent petrol or diesel 5 Series. That's why the i5 is one of the most popular executive company-car and salary-sacrifice choices.
Both options appear on every deal on this page ,use the Personal / Business toggle to switch.
What affects your BMW i5 lease price?
The monthly figure moves with:
Initial rental ,the upfront payment, usually a multiple of the monthly rental. A larger initial rental lowers the monthly cost.
Contract length ,longer terms usually mean lower monthly payments. (Note: current i5 deals here are shown over 60 months ,see availability note.)
Annual mileage ,the more miles you agree to, the higher the rental. Choose a realistic figure to avoid excess-mileage charges at handback.
Body style and specification ,the Touring costs a little more than the Saloon, and higher M Sport Pro and option-pack derivatives sit above the entry Sport Edition.
Adjust these on any deal to see how the price changes before you enquire.
BMW i5 lease deals frequently asked questions
Yes. The i5 Touring ,the estate version ,is available to lease alongside the Saloon, with a boot of around 570 litres. Use the Touring link at the top of the page to see estate deals.
The M60 xDrive is the 601hp performance version of the i5. It isn't currently among CarLeasing's live i5 deals ,the deals on this page are all the eDrive40. If you specifically want an M60, contact the team to check current availability.
The eDrive40 has an official WLTP range of up to around 362 miles (Saloon; slightly less for the Touring). In real-world driving expect roughly 290–310 miles in mild weather, and around 210–240 miles on a cold motorway run.
The i5 is the fully electric version of the 5 Series. It shares the same body, cabin and much of the technology, but replaces the petrol or diesel engine with an electric motor and battery ,so it's near-silent, cheaper to fuel and cleaner to run.
The i5 holds the maximum 5-star Euro NCAP rating (assessed as part of the 5 Series range, tested 2023), with a comprehensive suite of driver-assistance systems.
