Dacia Spring range and charging explained

The Spring is built around a small, efficient battery ,that's the whole point of the car, and it's what keeps it cheap. Here's what that means in practice.

Range. The Dacia Spring has an official WLTP range of up to 140 miles on a full charge. Because the Spring is so light ,under one tonne ,it's efficient, but 140 miles is a city-and-suburbs range, not a long-motorway range. Dacia's own data shows the average Spring driver covers around 23 miles a day, so for daily commuting and errands you'd charge roughly once or twice a week.

In real-world driving expect a little less than the official figure ,around 110–130 miles in mild weather, less in cold conditions or at sustained motorway speed. For its intended job ,short urban trips ,that's plenty.

Charging. The Spring's small battery is quick and cheap to charge:

• Home wallbox (7kW): a full charge takes around 5 hours ,an easy overnight top-up.

• Three-pin plug: a full charge overnight is realistic given the small battery, handy if you don't have a wallbox.

• Public rapid charging (DC): the more powerful versions support rapid charging, taking the battery from around 20–80% in roughly 45 minutes. Rapid-charging capability depends on the version ,check the individual deal.

Range and charging figures are official/indicative and vary by version, weather and driving style.

Dacia Spring trims to lease 

Dacia updated the Spring for 2026 with two new, more powerful motors  70hp and 100hp paired with a new 24.3kWh battery. The old 45hp and 65hp versions have been replaced. We offer the current range, and here's how the trims compare:

Expression 70

The value entry point. The Expression pairs the new 70hp (52kW) motor with the essentials for city driving: cruise control, rear parking sensors, manual air conditioning, electric front windows and a phone-mount media setup. It's the cheapest way into a brand-new EV, and 70hp makes it noticeably more usable in traffic than the old 45hp car.

Extreme 100

The range-topper. The Extreme gets the stronger 100hp (75kW) motor for more confident acceleration, plus rugged crossover-style exterior trim, 15-inch wheels, a 10-inch touchscreen with navigation and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a rear-view camera and copper design accents. Choose it if you want the best-equipped Spring and a bit more pace.

Some earlier 45hp and 65hp versions may still appear in the deals while stock lasts ,check the individual deal for the exact motor and battery.

What does a Dacia Spring cost to run?

The Spring's appeal is low cost, so here's the running-cost picture the part most lease pages leave out.

Charging cost (illustrative). The battery is about 24kWh usable. To charge from near-empty to full:

• On a typical home rate (~25p/kWh), a full charge costs around £6, giving roughly 120 real-world miles ,about 5p per mile.

• On a cheaper EV overnight tariff (~7–9p/kWh), a full charge costs around £2 ,roughly 1.5p per mile.

For comparison, a small petrol city car doing ~50mpg costs roughly 12–13p per mile in fuel. Even on a standard home tariff, the Spring more than halves your per-mile fuel cost.

Other running costs:

• Road tax (VED): electric cars began paying road tax in April 2025. Check whether it's included in your CarLeasing deal.

• Servicing: simple and cheap, an EV has far fewer moving parts than a petrol car. (Note the Spring's warranty is 3 years/60,000 miles, shorter than some rivals, with an 8-year battery warranty.)

• Insurance: the Spring sits in low insurance groups, helping keep total running costs down.

Charging costs are illustrative, assumptions stated; your actual cost depends on your tariff and driving. Energy prices change.

Who is the Dacia Spring right for? 

The Spring is a specific tool for a specific job. Being honest about that helps the right customer buy with confidence.

The Spring is a great fit if you:

• Mostly drive in town and the suburbs, with short daily trips

• Want the cheapest possible route into a brand-new electric car

• Can charge at or near home

• Want a simple, light, easy-to-park second car or city runabout

Look at something bigger if you:

• Regularly do long motorway journeys (the 140-mile range and modest motorway pace aren't built for it)

• Need to carry a full family and lots of luggage often

• Want the highest crash-safety rating ,the current Spring holds a 1-star Euro NCAP rating, reflecting its budget focus and fewer driver-assist systems (see FAQ)
