Why lease a Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

Leasing suits a car like the E-Class especially well. It is a premium executive car with a high list price, and leasing lets you drive one for a fixed monthly cost without the large upfront outlay of buying, and without carrying the risk of what a used executive car is worth in three or four years, which is where these cars lose the most value.

Reasons the E-Class makes sense on a lease:

  • It is a class benchmark. The E-Class has defined the executive-car segment for decades, with a cabin, ride quality and technology that rivals struggle to match.

  • It is the safest car in its class. The current E-Class holds a 5-star Euro NCAP rating and was named Euro NCAP's overall "Best Performer" for 2024, scoring 92% for adult occupant protection and 90% for child occupant protection.

  • There is a plug-in hybrid that makes real financial sense. The E300e and E300de offer around 60 to 70 miles of electric range, which for many drivers covers the daily commute on electric power alone and unlocks low company-car tax.

  • Petrol, diesel or plug-in hybrid. You can match the engine to how you actually drive, from a straightforward petrol to a long-range diesel or a plug-in hybrid.

Saloon vs Estate: which body style?

Both use the same engines and technology, so the choice is about shape and space.

  • E-Class Saloon. The classic four-door executive car. Sleek, refined and the default choice for business drivers who want the sharpest look and don't need to carry bulky loads.

  • E-Class Estate. The load-carrier, with a large 615-litre boot that expands to over 1,800 litres with the rear seats folded, plus a powered tailgate. Choose it if you regularly carry luggage, dogs, sports kit or family gear and want maximum practicality without stepping up to an SUV.

Both are available to lease. Use the Saloon and Estate links at the top of the page to see deals for each.

E-Class engines explained: petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid

Every current E-Class is electrified to some degree and pairs with a smooth 9-speed automatic gearbox. Here is how the engines compare.

E200 petrol (mild hybrid)

A 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with mild-hybrid assistance, producing around 201 to 204bhp. The mild-hybrid system adds a small electric boost and recovers energy under braking, but you never plug it in. The E200 is smooth and refined, and the sensible choice if you want petrol and do a mix of driving.

E220d diesel (mild hybrid)

A 2.0-litre diesel, also with mild-hybrid assistance, producing around 194 to 197bhp but with strong pulling power. If you cover high motorway mileage, the E220d is hard to beat for long-distance economy and effortless cruising, returning around 55mpg.

E300e and E300de plug-in hybrids

The plug-in hybrids, and for many the smartest choice. Both pair a 2.0-litre engine with a large 25.4kWh battery and an electric motor for a combined output of around 313bhp and brisk performance (0 to 62mph in around 6.1 to 6.5 seconds). The E300e is the petrol plug-in hybrid with an official electric range of up to around 71 miles; the E300de is the diesel plug-in hybrid with up to around 64 miles. Both let you drive on electric power for everyday journeys and switch to the engine for longer trips, so there is no range anxiety.

E-Class trims: Urban Edition to AMG Line Premium Plus

The current range walks up through several well-equipped trims. In broad terms:

  • Urban Edition. The entry trim, and still generously equipped with the MBUX touchscreen system, navigation, a reversing camera and the full safety suite. The value pick.

  • AMG Line Premium. Adds sportier AMG-style exterior styling, larger wheels and extra equipment. Often available with a panoramic roof.

  • Exclusive Premium. The same equipment level as AMG Line Premium but with a more classic, elegant look rather than the sporty AMG styling.

  • AMG Line Premium Plus / Exclusive Premium Plus. The top trims, adding the most luxury and technology, including the larger MBUX Superscreen and premium sound.

Check the individual deal for the exact equipment on each trim, as Mercedes updates specifications periodically.

The E300e plug-in hybrid as a company car

This is where the E-Class gets genuinely clever for business drivers, and it is the single strongest reason to lease one through a company.

Company-car tax (Benefit-in-Kind, or BIK) is based mainly on a car's CO2 emissions. Because the E300e and E300de emit very little CO2 on the official test (around 12 to 18g/km) thanks to their large batteries and long electric range, they sit in a much lower BIK band than the petrol or diesel versions. For a company-car driver, that can mean paying a fraction of the monthly tax you would pay on an equivalent non-hybrid executive car.

The catch is simple: the tax saving only translates into a real running-cost saving if you actually plug in and charge. If you can charge at home or at work and your daily drive is within the electric range, the E300e can be one of the most cost-effective ways to run a premium executive car. If you never charge it, you carry the extra weight of the battery for no benefit.

Company-car tax depends on the current tax year and your circumstances. Check with your accountant or fleet manager before deciding.

What about the Coupé, Convertible and AMG models?

A quick, honest answer, because these are common searches.

The E-Class Coupé and Convertible are no longer part of the E-Class range. Mercedes replaced them with a separate model, the CLE, which now covers the two-door coupé and convertible body styles. If you are looking for a two-door executive Mercedes, the CLE is the current equivalent.

AMG versions of the E-Class (such as the E53) sit at the top of the range as high-performance models. These are not currently among CarLeasing's live E-Class deals, which focus on the Saloon and Estate in petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid form. If you specifically want an AMG or a two-door CLE, contact the team to check current availability.

Personal vs business leasing on the E-Class

You can lease the E-Class either way, and for a car in this class the business case is strong.

Personal leasing (PCH) is for private drivers. You pay a fixed monthly rental that includes VAT, so the price you see is the price you pay.

Business leasing (BCH) is for companies, sole traders and partnerships. Prices are shown excluding VAT, and VAT-registered businesses can often reclaim part of the VAT on the rentals, depending on how the car is used. As covered above, the E300e and E300de plug-in hybrids are particularly attractive as company cars thanks to their low BIK tax rating.

Both options appear on every deal on this page. Use the Personal / Business toggle to switch between them.

Business and company-car tax treatment depends on your circumstances and the current tax year. Check with your accountant before deciding.

What affects your E-Class lease price?

The monthly figure moves with four things:

  • Initial rental. The upfront payment, usually shown as a multiple of the monthly rental (for example 6 or 12 months). A larger initial rental lowers the monthly cost.

  • Contract length. Deals typically run from 24 up to 60 months. Longer terms usually mean lower monthly payments.

  • Annual mileage. The more miles you agree to, the higher the rental. Choose a realistic figure to avoid excess-mileage charges at the end.

  • Body style, engine and trim. An Estate costs a little more than the Saloon, a plug-in hybrid more than a petrol, and a Premium Plus trim more than Urban Edition.

Adjust these on any deal to see how the monthly price changes before you enquire.
