Why lease a Mercedes-Benz GLE?
The GLE sits near the top of the Mercedes SUV range, between the mid-size GLC and the flagship GLS. It's a genuine rival to the BMW X5, Audi Q7, Volvo XC90, Land Rover Discovery and Porsche Cayenne, and it majors on the things large-SUV buyers actually want: a quiet, comfortable cabin, the latest MBUX infotainment, strong safety kit and a wide spread of engines. Leasing spreads the cost over fixed monthly payments, keeps you in a brand-new GLE under warranty for the whole term, and on our dealsbundles in road tax and free UK delivery, so there's no large deposit to buy the car outright and no worry about its future resale value.
Every GLE in our range is a 4Matic (all-wheel drive) model with the smooth 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox.
Which GLE engine should you lease?
This is the decision that changes both how the GLE drives and how much it costs to run so it's worth getting right.
DieselGLE 300d, 350d and 450d
The straight diesels are the simplest choice and still make a lot of sense for high-mileage drivers and long-distance towing. The 300d uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder; the 350d and 450d step up to a smoother 3.0-litre six-cylinder with more pull. All are assisted by a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that helps low-speed running and smooths out the stop-startthis is a mild hybrid, so it never needs plugging in and can't drive on electric power alone. Diesels are the ones to pick if most of your miles are motorway, or if you want seven seats (see below). The trade-off is higher CO2, which matters most to company-car drivers.
Plug-in hybridGLE 350de, 400e and 450e
The plug-in hybrids pair an engine with a 31.2 kWh battery, one of the largest in this class of PHEVfor a meaningful electric-only range of up to around 60 miles (WLTP), varying with wheel size and driving style. The 350de combines a 2.0-litre diesel with the electric motor; the 400e (2.0-litre petrol) and 450e (3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol) are the petrol plug-ins. Unusually for a plug-in hybrid, the GLE can also DC rapid-charge, so a top-up at a public charger takes minutes rather than hours. If you can charge at home or work and do a lot of shorter journeys, a GLE PHEV can run on electricity for most of the week and switch to the engine for longer trips and it's the powertrain that gives company-car drivers a lower tax bill than the diesels. One thing to note before you choose: the plug-in hybrids are five-seat only.
Mercedes-AMG GLE 53
At the top of our range is the AMG GLE 53, which uses a 449hp 3.0-litre straight-six. It comes in two forms, and they're genuinely different cars:
GLE 53 4Matic+ (mild hybrid): the six-cylinder with 48-volt assistance. Fastest to react, but the thirstiest and highest-emitting of the GLEs here, and available with seven seats.
GLE 53 4Matic+ HYBRID (plug-in): the same six paired with an electric motor and battery for around 585hp combined, plus an electric-only range of up to roughly 60 miles. This is the one that blends AMG pace with plug-in running costs but, like the other plug-ins, it's five-seat only.
Which trim: Urban Edition, AMG Line Premium or Premium Plus?
Our GLE deals run across three main trim levels, plus the AMG grades:
Urban Edition is the well-equipped entry point, a strong-value starting spec on the diesels and plug-in hybrids.
AMG Line Premium adds a sportier look and more equipment.
AMG Line Premium Plus is the fully-loaded choice, typically bringing the largest wheels, a panoramic roof and the most complete comfort and driver-assistance kit.
The AMG GLE 53 grades (Premium, Premium+ and Night Edition versions) sit above these for buyers who want the performance six.
Exact equipment varies by derivative and can change with the model year, so check the spec on the individual deal before you order.
Five or seven seats and how big is the boot?
This is the other decision that catches buyers out. Seven seats are available on the diesel and mild-hybrid petrol GLEs, with a third row that folds into the floor when you don't need it. The plug-in hybrids are five-seat only, the battery sits under the boot floor, so there's no room for a third row.
That battery also affects luggage space. In five-seat petrol and diesel models you get around 630 litres; the plug-in hybrids offer around 490 litres because of the raised boot floor. Both are usefully square load bays with a powered tailgate as standard. If you regularly carry six or seven people, choose a diesel or the mild-hybrid petrol; if it's five people and you can charge, a PHEV's running-cost savings may matter more than the extra seats.
Personal vs business GLE leasing
Personal leasing (PCH): monthly prices are quoted including VAT. You choose the term and annual mileage, pay an initial rental, then fixed monthly payments with road tax and free UK delivery included on our deals.
Business leasing (BCH): prices are shown excluding VAT, and VAT-registered businesses can typically reclaim a portion of it. The powertrain matters more here because of company-car tax (Benefit-in-Kind, or BIK):
The diesels (300d, 350d, 450d) emit roughly 180–220 g/km CO2, which puts them at or near the top BIK band (37% for 2026/27).
The plug-in hybrids (350de, 400e, 450e) emit far less and offer a real electric range, so they sit in a materially lower band the reason a company-car driver will usually pay much less tax on a GLE PHEV than on a diesel. Because their official CO2 is above 50 g/km, they don't qualify for the very lowest ultra-low-emission PHEV rates, and the exact band depends on each derivative's homologated CO2 and electric range so confirm the figures for your chosen build before you commit.
Worth planning for: from April 2028 all plug-in hybrids move to a single flat BIK rate regardless of electric range, which is relevant if you're taking a longer contract.
If you're leasing through a business, our team can talk you through the BIK position on the specific derivative you're considering.
How the GLE compares to rivals
Against its main rivals the GLE's strengths are cabin quality, refinement and the breadth of its engine rangefew competitors offer diesel, petrol-PHEV, diesel-PHEV and an AMG performance model in one line-up. On outright boot space it's beaten by some: the BMW X5 (around 650 litres), Volvo XC90 (around 680 litres), Audi Q7 (around 740 litres) and Porsche Cayenne (around 772 litres) all carry more than the GLE's 630 litres, and the plug-in GLE's 490 litres trails most PHEV rivals too. Where the GLE pulls ahead is the combination of a seven-seat option (on diesel and mild-hybrid models) with genuinely long plug-in-hybrid electric ranger mix the X5 and Q7 don't quite match in the same trims.
Mercedes-Benz GLE lease FAQs
It depends on the engine, trim, contract length, annual mileage and initial rental. The GLE is a large, premium SUV, so monthly rates are higher than a mid-size SUVsee the live deals above for current personal (inc VAT) and business (exc VAT) prices, and use the filters to match a deal to your budget and mileage.
Yes, the diesel and mild-hybrid petrol GLEs are available with a third row of seats. The plug-in hybrid models are five-seat only, because the battery sits under the boot floor.
The plug-in hybrids (350de, 400e, 450e) attract a lower Benefit-in-Kind rate than the diesels, which sit at or near the 37% top band. The exact PHEV band depends on the derivative's official CO2 and electric range, so ask us to confirm the figure for the build you want before you order.
Up to around 60 miles on a full charge (WLTP), depending on wheel size and how you drive. The GLE PHEV can also DC rapid-charge/unusual for a plug-in hybrid so public top-ups are quick.
Yes. The GLE was awarded the maximum five-star Euro NCAP rating (2019 test), and comes with a strong standard safety package including automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist and blind-spot monitoring.
Every new GLE is covered by Mercedes-Benz's three-year, unlimited-mileage manufacturer warranty, with separate longer cover for the high-voltage battery on plug-in hybrid models. (This is the manufacturer's warranty; road tax on your lease is included separately as part of the CarLeasing deal.)
