Why lease the Volkswagen ID.5?
Leasing is one of the simplest ways into an electric car. You pay a fixed monthly rental for a brand-new ID.5, avoid the large upfront cost of buying, and hand the car back at the end of the term so you're never exposed to what a used EV is worth down the line, which matters in a fast-moving electric market.
The ID.5 suits leasing well for a few reasons:
It's a genuine long-range EV. The Pro versions offer an official range of up to around 345 miles, which comfortably covers most weekly driving on a single charge.
It's built on a dedicated EV platform. The ID.5 uses Volkswagen's MEB architecture (shared with the ID.4 and ID.3), designed around the battery rather than adapted from a petrol car which helps efficiency and cabin space.
It holds a 5-star Euro NCAP rating. The ID.5 was rated five stars by Euro NCAP, scoring 93% for adult occupant protection and 89% for child occupant protection.
It's practical despite the coupé shape. The sloping roofline doesn't cost much boot space, and there's room for four adults in comfort.
Volkswagen ID.5 range, battery and charging
Range and charging are usually the first questions on an EV lease, so here's the picture in plain terms.
Range. Official WLTP range runs from around 272 miles on the smaller-battery Pure Match up to around 345 miles on the Pro versions. As with any EV, real-world range depends on weather, speed and how you drive expect to see less than the official figure in cold weather or at motorway speeds.
Battery. The ID.5 is offered with more than one battery size across the range, with the larger Pro battery giving the longest range. Volkswagen quotes usable battery capacity so you get a realistic idea of how far each version will go.
Charging. At home on a 7kW wallbox you'll typically charge overnight. On a public rapid charger, the ID.5 supports DC fast charging that can take the battery from 10–80% in around half an hour under the right conditions. Exact charging speeds vary by version and by the charger you use.
Range and charging figures are official manufacturer figures and vary by trim, battery and conditions. Confirm the figure for your chosen version on the deal page.
Which Volkswagen ID.5 should you lease?
The ID.5 range splits into three groups. Here's how they compare, so you can match the version to how you drive.
Pure Match (58kWh)
The entry point. The Pure Match pairs the smaller 58kWh battery with a single rear-mounted motor, giving an official range of up to around 272 miles and 0–62mph in the region of 8.4 seconds. It's the value pick if most of your driving is local and you don't need the longest range.
Pro Essential, Pro Match & Black Edition (79kWh)
The heart of the range. These use the larger 79kWh battery for an official range of up to around 345 miles, with 0–62mph of around 6.7 seconds. Pro Essential covers the essentials; Pro Match adds equipment such as matrix LED headlights and a rear-view camera; Black Edition layers on black exterior styling and a panoramic roof. If range is your priority, this is the group to look at.
GTX Edition 4MOTION (77kWh)
The performance version. The GTX adds a second motor for 4MOTION all-wheel drive and a stronger power output, cutting the 0–62mph time to around 5.4 seconds. Range is slightly lower than the Pro models because of the extra motor and weight. Choose it if you want the quickest ID.5 and the security of all-wheel drive.
Trim availability changes as Volkswagen updates the range. Check the live deals above for the versions currently available to lease.
Personal vs business leasing on the Volkswagen ID.5
You can lease the ID.5 either way, and the right choice depends on who's paying.
Personal leasing (PCH) is for private drivers. You pay a fixed monthly rental that includes VAT. The price you see is the price you pay.
Business leasing (BCH) is for companies, sole traders and partnerships. Prices are shown excluding VAT, and VAT-registered businesses can often reclaim a portion of the VAT on the rentals, depending on how the car is used. As a fully electric car, the ID.5 also sits in a low Benefit-in-Kind (BIK) company-car tax band, which is why EVs are popular as business and salary-sacrifice choices though the exact BIK rate depends on the current tax year.
Both options appear on every deal on this page and use the Personal / Business toggle to switch between them.
Business and company-car tax treatment depends on your circumstances and the current tax year. Check with your accountant before deciding.
What affects your Volkswagen ID.5 lease price?
The monthly figure moves with four things:
Initial rental — the upfront payment, usually shown as a multiple of the monthly rental (for example 6 or 12 months). A larger initial rental lowers the monthly cost.
Contract length — most deals run 24, 36 or 48 months. Longer terms usually mean lower monthly payments.
Annual mileage — the more miles you agree to, the higher the rental. Choose a realistic figure, as going over means excess-mileage charges at the end.
Battery, trim and drivetrain — a larger-battery Pro or an all-wheel-drive GTX costs more per month than the entry Pure Match.
Adjust these on any deal to see how the monthly price changes before you enquire.
